Thammanat Ready for a New Election Amid Concerns Over Fairness

Bangkok: Captain Thamanat Phromphao, chief advisor to the Kla Tham Party, expressed readiness for a new election if the current rules prove unfair, particularly highlighting issues surrounding the pink ballot papers. Thammanat addressed these concerns in response to a reporter's question about the potential for the Constitutional Court to rule the recent election invalid.

According to Thai News Agency, Thammanat, who clarified he is not a lawyer, stated that he cannot predict legal outcomes but emphasized his preparedness for another election should it become necessary due to unfair electoral practices. He expressed his views on the judicial process being in the hands of legal experts and reiterated his concerns about the election process, specifically the use of pink ballots.

When asked about comments made by former Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam, which suggested uncertainty over government formation or the need for a new election, Thammanat maintained that politicians, including himself, must be prepared to return to elections if fairness is compromised.

Thammanat was also questioned on the hypothetical scenario where Election Commission members might face imprisonment, potentially impacting the management of new elections. He reiterated his stance, stating, "Ask me, I'm not a judge, so how would I answer?" He further mentioned alignment with the Prime Minister's position on awaiting the Election Commission's certification of election validity.

Thammanat's primary concern lies with the pink ballots, an issue he has discussed with various experts who share his apprehensions. He emphasized the importance of focusing on election integrity rather than solely on government formation, underlining the need to address underlying electoral issues.
