Bangkok: "Thanakhon" has instructed the Permanent Secretary of Industry to work closely with industry leaders to help them understand the ongoing energy crisis. He stressed that government bodies, including the Energy Policy and Strategy Center, must effectively communicate and raise awareness about the situation, highlighting the need for collective effort beyond just governmental intervention.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Thanagorn Wangboonkongchana, the Minister of Industry, has spoken about measures to support industrial factories affected by rising oil prices. He assured that both the government and the Ministry of Industry are monitoring the situation and implementing strategies to ease the difficulties faced by the industrial sector and the general public.
Mr. Thanagorn disclosed that he has asked the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and associated agencies to develop contingency plans, given this is the final term for the current government. A ministry-wide meeting has already been held to address the issue. The steel, cement, semiconductor, and plastic pellet industries are notably impacted by the increasing energy costs. The Permanent Secretary is actively coordinating with businesses to promote understanding and create collaborative solutions. The government is committed to clear communication and public awareness, urging for cooperation from all parties involved.
In response to queries about the nationwide turmoil over oil prices and public concerns about fuel supply, Mr. Thanagorn explained that the government has established a Situation Management Center (SMCC), led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, who is providing daily updates. The Prime Minister is also actively involved, conducting daily meetings with relevant agencies to ensure accurate public education. The importance of collaboration is emphasized, as the current crisis is a repercussion of an ongoing conflict beyond anyone's control.
Addressing the existing problems, Mr. Thanagorn highlighted that while major gas stations operated by parent companies are unaffected, smaller retail stations supplied by wholesalers are experiencing shortages. He called for an investigation by the Fuel Control Center (FCC), noting that the matter is well-known, even among reporters. The Prime Minister is reportedly focused on this issue with utmost dedication. As a Minister and Member of Parliament, he remains well-informed and insists on public education to address the situation accurately. While Bangkok remains unaffected, provincial areas are experiencing significant challenges, necessitating government intervention to tackle the underlying causes.
