Bangkok: Tourists are flocking to book boat trips to see the red lotus lake, following in the footsteps of "Lisa." After the Tourism Authority of Thailand promoted Lisa Manoban's stunning photos at the Red Lotus Lake in Kumphawapi District, Udon Thani Province, for just three days, tourists flocked to book boat tours, with 400 trips per day.
According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere at Ban Diam pier in Kumphawapi district, Udon Thani province, was bustling. Both Thai and foreign tourists lined up to buy tickets for boat trips to see the red lotus flowers as early as 4 am. Japanese tourists, in particular, arrived early by bus and van to witness the beauty of the red lotuses as the sun rose. Meanwhile, more tourists continued to arrive, creating long queues to board the boats and admire the sea of red lotuses.
Mr. Praisit Sukrom, chairman of the Red Lotus Sea Tourist Boat Community Enterprise, revealed that it is a tremendous phenomenon; the Lisa phenomenon has greatly boosted the local economy. There are far more tourists than during the New Year period alone, with most coming to follow in Lisa's footsteps.
As for tourist boats, the number has increased from 100 trips a day to 400 now, a fourfold increase. In the mornings, many Japanese tourists come to take boat trips to see the red lotus lake as the sun rises, to witness the first light of day.
Locals thanked Lisa and the Tourism Authority of Thailand for promoting the Red Lotus Sea, saying it received a great response with tourists flocking to follow in Lisa's footsteps. They invite tourists to visit anytime to see the beauty of the tens of thousands of acres of blooming red lotuses, which will be in bloom from now until mid-March 2026. 95 boats are available for hire.
