Traffic Congestion Persists on Highways as Holidaymakers Return

Chiang mai: The superhighway is congested with traffic as people return home after the long holiday. Traffic on the Superhighway heading out of Chiang Mai city remains heavy but continues to move well. Meanwhile, traffic on the Asian Highway has been steadily increasing since this morning.

According to Thai News Agency, people and tourists are gradually returning to work after the long New Year holiday. On the Asian Highway (Super Highway) outbound from Chiang Mai towards Lamphun, traffic is heavy but still moving well at reasonable speeds, with only minor congestion at intersections. Similarly, inbound traffic to Chiang Mai is also heavy, with vehicles able to maintain speed. Roadside stalls in Saraphi district are experiencing increased sales, with tourists purchasing temperate fruits.

On Asian Highway 31, from Chaiyo District, Ang Thong Province, to the border of Maha Rat District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, traffic volume has been increasing continuously since the morning. Vehicles are maintaining speed, despite slowdowns at road construction sites, bottlenecks, and rest areas with gas stations. Traffic is expected to intensify in the afternoon, with officials recommending alternative routes through Ang Thong city and onto Route 309 and Route 347 towards Bangkok.

In Ayutthaya province, on the Asian Highway heading towards Bangkok, traffic has been heavy since morning from kilometer marker 26 to the Ayutthaya interchange, with all lanes full but moving at speeds of 80-100 kilometers per hour. Traffic on Phahonyothin Road is similarly increasing but remains smooth. The flow of travelers returning home is expected to continue throughout the day and into the following day.
