Trang: A suspect has confessed to stealing gold from a municipal pawnshop in Trang. He admitted to being one of the people holding the safe keys and confessed to having done this several times, specifically targeting gold that he thought would take owners a long time to redeem.
According to Thai News Agency, in the case of the gold missing from the Trang Municipal Pawnshop during the New Year holiday, the Trang Provincial Court has approved an arrest warrant for one suspect, Mr. Nipitphon, who was one of the keyholders of the safe. Yesterday, authorities interrogated him intensely at the Trang City Police Station throughout the day after obtaining crucial evidence linking him to the crime. He was immediately arrested after the warrant was approved. He confessed to being in debt from online gambling. Initially, approximately 200 items from the pawnshop were found missing, but the suspect confessed to taking only 30. Authorities are not convinced and are continuing the investigation. It is believed the gold was sold to various pawnshops.
The suspect also confessed to committing similar crimes several times before, specifically targeting gold that he thought the owners would take time to redeem. When the redemption time arrived, he would quickly redeem the gold, place it back in the safe, and pawn other pieces of gold. Police will release further details later.
