U.S. Government’s Immigration Crackdown Intensifies in Minneapolis

Minneapolis: The U.S. federal government has intensified its crackdown on illegal immigration in Minneapolis following a heated exchange between President Donald Trump and Mayor Jacob Frey. Previously, daily clashes between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in Minnesota showed signs of easing after President Trump offered a conciliatory stance on Tuesday. He signaled a relaxation of measures, indicating plans to replace officers who had used violent methods with new officers and expressed a desire to de-escalate tensions after police shootings resulted in the deaths of two civilians. According to Thai News Agency, just one day later, President Trump reverted to a tough stance by posting a message accusing Mayor Frey of playing with fire for insisting that local police refrain from enforcing federal immigration law. Trump labeled it a serious violation of the law and threatened to cut funding to states not fully cooperating with federal immigration agencies. In response, Mayor Frey stated th at the duty of local police is to keep citizens safe, not to enforce federal immigration law. Meanwhile, ICE operations remain intense. Attorney General Pamela Bondi reported that 16 suspects have been arrested in Minnesota on charges of assault and obstructing officers. Officers are continuing their door-to-door searches for suspects, and Bondi affirmed that nothing can stop the government's enforcement of the law.
