Udon thani: People lined up to fill their motorcycle tanks with gasoline for 7 baht. A used car dealership in Udon Thani has opened its parking lot to allow motorcyclists to fill up their tanks with fuel for only 7 baht, helping to reduce the financial burden on low-income individuals.
According to Thai News Agency, amidst rising fuel prices, the business was revived by a generous individual. The "Dragon Car Tent" dealership in Na Dee Subdistrict, Mueang District, Udon Thani Province, offered motorcyclists the opportunity to fill their tanks with 91 octane gasoline for a nominal price of 7 baht. Following a Facebook announcement, the initiative saw overwhelming interest, resulting in a queue of over 500 meters outside the dealership. Employees organized the setup by lining up pickup trucks, each equipped with a 200-liter fuel tank, using hand-cranked pumps to distribute the fuel.
Mr. Surasak Charoennantakul, known as "Sia Lei," the dealership owner, mentioned that the idea was inspired by similar initiatives in other regions where gasoline was offered at 1 baht per liter. He aimed to relieve the financial strain on the local community. The gasoline was made available for a single day, intended to ease the burden on low-income earners, with the potential for future occurrences dependent on circumstances.
A total of 3,000 liters of 91 octane gasoline, valued at around 130,000 baht, was reserved exclusively for motorcycles and motorized tricycles, with expectations that the supply would be exhausted by 8:00 PM.
Mr. Viroj, a 44-year-old delivery driver, shared his experience, stating that he typically spends 120-130 baht for a full tank every 2-3 days. The opportunity to fill his tank for only 7 baht was a significant financial relief, allowing him to save on fuel costs for several days. He expressed his appreciation and hope for similar initiatives in the future.
