US Tariff Adjustment to 15% Brings Short-Term Benefits for Thailand

Bangkok: Supajee reported to the Cabinet that the United States has adjusted its tariffs to a uniform rate of 15%. This adjustment, according to the report, is expected to bring short-term benefits to Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, Supajee revealed that the Cabinet acknowledged the report following the US's decision to impose the uniform tariff rate worldwide. She indicated that while Thailand stands to gain in the short term, further clarification from the US is necessary to fully understand the implications. She affirmed that there is no need for negotiations to create a new list of goods, as current arrangements remain unaffected.

Commerce Minister Supachie Suthamphan shared insights from the Cabinet meeting, where discussions centered on the US leader's adjustment of retaliatory tariffs to 15% across the globe, utilizing Section 122 of the Criminal Code. The government is set to review the clarification of these tariff measures after a 150-day period, as the details remain unclear at this point.

"In the short term, we are currently benefiting because we originally received 19%, but we need to wait for further clarification," Ms. Supajee stated. When questioned about the necessity of renegotiating details of various products, she clarified that no renegotiation was required, as the United States has already established prices for the goods, with some exemptions in place.
