Bangkok: A ceremony will be held on February 3rd, Veterans Day, to inter the ashes of four soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty on the Thai-Cambodian border. This event aims to honor these heroes, followed by a veterans' parade and a wreath-laying ceremony.
According to Thai News Agency, the Minister of Defence, General Natthaphol Nakpanich, announced the upcoming ceremony, highlighting the bravery of the soldiers. Major General Anothai Pongkaew, Lieutenant Colonel Amarin Phasuk, Sub-Lieutenant Thanaphat Nanthawong, and Sub-Lieutenant Thiwatawan Pholyiam will be commemorated for their service at various key locations, including Prasat Ta Kwai and Ban Nong Chan.
The ceremony is scheduled for 7:20 AM on February 3, 2026, starting with a lighting of lamps and offerings to the remains. A parade of veterans from the Veterans Organization will then proceed to the Victory Monument for a wreath-laying ceremony to honor the contributions of all veterans.
General Nattapol emphasized the importance of the event's planning, ensuring smooth execution and proper honor for those who gave their lives for the nation. He stated that the details and appropriateness of the procedures would be discussed at a relevant meeting.
The Veterans Welfare Organization will also hold its annual Veterans Day event from January 26th to February 3rd, 2026. The theme "February 3rd: Veterans Commemorate the Royal Kindness of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother" will guide these activities, focusing on her compassion towards veterans and their bravery.
Historically, the Victory Monument houses the ashes of 7,297 heroes from various conflicts, including the French Indochina War, the Korean War, and the suppression of communist insurgency.
