Vietnamese President’s Landmark Visit to Thailand to Mark 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations

Bangkok: The President of Vietnam will embark on an official visit to Thailand on May 27-28 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. This visit marks the first time a Vietnamese leader has officially visited an ASEAN country since assuming the presidency.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that His Excellency Mr. To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, along with his wife, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly, will be visiting Thailand as guests of the government. This visit coincides with the significant milestone of 50 years of Thai-Vietnamese diplomatic relations and aims to elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

The spokesperson highlighted the importance of the visit, which will take place under the theme "New Chapter of the 50th Thailand - Viet Nam Diplomatic Relations: Enhancing Comprehensive Strategic Partnership." The focus will be on solidifying cooperation in areas such as security, economics, trade, science, technology, and innovation, as well as promoting people-to-people relations through the implementation of the Three Connects strategy.

On May 28, 2026, the Prime Minister of Thailand will officially welcome Mr. To Lam and Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly at Government House. The visit will include a military honor guard inspection and discussions to promote cooperation in various sectors including economics, trade, investment, and security.
