Bangkok: "Saeng" has confirmed that the removal of 28 parliamentary candidates' names will not affect the upcoming election, as these were party-list candidates.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Saeng Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission (EC), discussed the EC's decision to forward the case of these 28 disqualified candidates to the Supreme Court. He clarified that the candidates faced disqualification due to being under certain ongoing restrictions, necessitating a thorough investigation and fair consideration process. This process includes providing the candidates an opportunity to explain their positions, which contributed to the delay in decision-making.
Mr. Saeng further elaborated that since these individuals were part of the party-list system, their withdrawal would not significantly impact the election process. In the event that a decision is not reached by February 8th, those on the party-list can simply be moved up to fill the vacant spots, unlike constituency candidates where such flexibility doesn't exist.
