Lamphun: Yotsanan Wongsawat, Pheu Thai Party's prime ministerial candidate, led a delegation to Lamphun Province to engage with local longan farmers and address their ongoing challenges.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Yotsanan, alongside party leaders Mr. Julaphan Amornvivat and Mr. Suriya Jungrungruangkit, emphasized the party's commitment to passing the Longan Strategy Act, which aims to improve the economic conditions of longan farmers by increasing prices and reducing cultivation costs.
During the visit to a longan orchard in Mae Raeng Subdistrict, Pa Sang District, Mr. Yotsanan listened to the farmers' concerns about low longan prices and insufficient government support. The farmers highlighted the need for the Longan Strategy Act, which had previously been stalled in the Senate. Mr. Yotsanan reassured them of his dedication to reviving and enacting the legislation to benefit local producers.
Mr. Yotsanan also addressed lychee farmers in the Northern Thai dialect, outlining his plans for the Lychee Strategy Act and nationwide cold storage facilities to enhance export capabilities. He stressed the importance of reclaiming Thai sovereignty over foreign-owned fruit packing houses and announced initiatives for debt relief and government-backed lychee purchases. Mr. Yotsanan's proposals aim to boost lychee prices and develop value-added products like cosmetics, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a light-hearted moment, Mr. Yotsanan encouraged voters to support both Pheu Thai candidates in Lamphun's constituencies, promising that electing both would ensure a comprehensive representation of their interests. He also reiterated a new policy of providing a monthly subsidy of 3,000 baht to individuals earning below the poverty line, a move intended to restore dignity and align with the party's historical policies.
Mr. Suriya, speaking on behalf of the party, pledged to enhance agricultural product transportation and improve travel safety in Lamphun, contingent on electoral support. Following their engagement with farmers, Mr. Yotsanan and the team toured the longan orchard, sampled the fruit, and interacted with local residents, who presented them with flowers and traditional indigo-dyed cotton shirts, symbolizing the community's appreciation and support.
