Ratchaburi: A young man who struck and killed a woman, resulting in her leg being severed, has been remanded in custody, with the victim's father expressing disappointment over the lack of an apology. Ratchaburi police have brought the 46-year-old man, identified as Mr. Khemrat, to Ratchaburi Provincial Court following the incident involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle.

According to Thai News Agency, the collision occurred on the Phikun Thong-Ban Rai Chao Nuea road in the Phikun Thong Subdistrict. The accident left the female passenger with a severed right leg and the female driver with a fractured ankle. Mr. Khemrat later surrendered to authorities, admitting ownership of the pickup truck. He confessed he was unaware of what he had hit, initially believing it was a cow, and expressed willingness to apologize and compensate the victims.

Police have since remanded Mr. Khemrat in custody at the Ratchaburi Provincial Court. He conveyed through authorities his intention to apologize to the victims and their families if granted bail, though he claimed not to know the identities of the victims and reiterated his uncertainty about the accident's specifics.

The father of the injured woman, whose leg was severed, visited the police station to meet with investigators. He reported having met Mr. Khemrat but had not received an apology. He voiced his desire for the driver to face the maximum penalty and questioned Mr. Khemrat's belief that he had hit a cow.

The suspect's wife has issued an apology on his behalf, but the father emphasized the importance of an apology directly from Mr. Khemrat, despite his reluctance to see him. Relatives of the injured motorcyclist also expressed their dissatisfaction with the apologies offered by the suspect's family, insisting that the responsibility lies with Mr. Khemrat himself. They questioned his actions on the night of the incident, noting that he failed to stop and check on the victims despite having the presence of mind to inspect his vehicle. The motorcyclist, who suffered a broken leg and fractured bones, remains in a fragile condition, raising concerns about her ability to walk again.
