Pattani: The Prime Minister apologized to the public regarding the incident involving the commander of the 4th Army Region, admitting he did not speak completely. The Prime Minister stated that the commander had already apologized and admitted to not having spoken fully. He expressed a desire to work together to build peace.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul revealed after chairing a meeting at the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4 Forward Headquarters, Sirindhorn Camp, Khao Tum Subdistrict, Yarang District, Pattani Province, that the meeting to monitor security in the southern border provinces went well. He also stated that his meeting with Kamolsak Leewamoh, MP for Narathiwat from the Prachachart Party, also went well. He affirmed that the investigation has been thoroughly pursued, resulting in the arrest of almost all suspects, and that further investigations are underway. He reiterated that justice will be served to all parties and expressed confidence that justice will lead to peace and tranquility.
Regarding the criticism of the 4th Army Region commander, the Prime Minister acknowledged that discussions had taken place and assured the public that the commander is working diligently, has been on the front lines constantly, and has been responsive to government policies. He stated that recent events may have led to increased questioning and pressure from both the central government and the Prime Minister, potentially resulting in responses under stressful conditions. The commander admitted to incomplete or inaccurate statements and expressed his sincere apologies to the public.
"I must apologize to the public, in my capacity as Director of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), for causing concern and worry. Today, we are here to address and scrutinize every issue. We will strive to act within the law. Anyone found guilty will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. There is no need to worry about any cover-up," the Prime Minister said.
Regarding the concerns raised by the Islamic boarding schools, the Prime Minister stated that he had spoken with representatives of the Southern Private School Federation, including Mr. Khaddari Binzen, the chairman of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center's advisory board, who affirmed the words of the Commander of the 4th Army Region, believing that everyone desires to create peace and coexistence.
"As I may speak hesitantly and need to be careful, my heart is filled with love, concern, and confidence for the people of all races and religions in the southern border provinces. I was very impressed by what I saw. I once visited a hospital in one district and saw a Buddhist monk lying down while a Muslim imam sat massaging his legs. It made me feel good. These images show my confidence in making things better," said Mr. Anutin.
Regarding economic development, confidence is essential. The government must have confidence in the people, and the people must have confidence in the government. Economic growth and investment depend on mutual trust. When outsiders have confidence, people will come in, and the economy will grow.
"Today is a good opportunity. They are fighting for oil, but oil is not edible. Thailand doesn't have oil, but we have food. We have land in the southern border provinces. Conflicts and wars are happening in the Middle East; they have oil but no food. We should use this opportunity to create a food source that is suitable for religious purposes. There are many opportunities. We must believe that we can do it and take care of our people. Please have faith in Thailand. I believe we can do it," the Prime Minister said.
