Nan: The Prime Minister visited Nan province and ordered measures to address the flooding in northern Thailand. The first batch of 6,700 flood relief payments is expected to begin on August 30, 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, along with his delegation, traveled to Narathiwat Province to hold a meeting with the governors of 37 provinces in the northern and northeastern regions to closely monitor the flood situation. He emphasized that although the overall situation is beginning to improve, resources and personnel must remain on standby to monitor areas at risk of heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides. He also instructed the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to expedite the development of a new disaster warning application to ensure the most up-to-date and accurate information.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the National Water Resources Management Committee (NWRC), the Royal Irrigation Department, and related agencies must continuously monitor and assess the water situation. If a mass of water reaches any area, they must immediately warn the public in advance to allow time to prepare, move belongings, and evacuate vulnerable groups from high-risk areas. He also ordered the preparation of machinery and temporary bridges in case of transportation disruptions. In the long term, he instructed the NWRC to revise flood mitigation plans to prevent negative impacts on the economy and tourism. Meanwhile, Mr. Chainarong Wongyai, Governor of Nan Province, revealed that the first batch of compensation payments, totaling 6,700 baht, will begin being disbursed between August 30th and September 1st.
In Nan Province, the water level in the Nan River has dropped nearly 4 meters below the banks, resulting in the floodwaters receding in all areas of the city. Nan Municipality officials have mobilized water trucks and personnel to clean up mud and silt from houses and streets in low-lying communities along the river. Meanwhile, the atmosphere of trade in markets and economic zones has become lively again. It is expected that the entire city will be restored to normal within 4-5 days.
