Government House, 22 Oct. – “Thawee” counters double standards in the justice process in the “The Icon-Tak Bai” case, preparing to bring to justice those behind ” Politician S. – Thewada ” , revealing that he has ordered the Department of Corrections to urgently find a way to separate the accused from the prisoners.
Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice, spoke about the criticism of the justice process after the accused in the Icon case were treated like prisoners, saying that we must accept the limitations because there are 143 prisons, which can hold 200,000 inmates, but currently there are almost 300,000. We must act according to the regulations. At the moment, none of them have been in prison yet. They are being monitored according to the regulations. After that, the Central Women’s Correctional Institution and the Bangkok Special Prison, both prisons, will have interim detention. For example, in the Icon case, the accused will not have their hair cut. They can meet with their lawyers and relativ
es to prepare to fight the case. I would like to emphasize that everyone is treated the same. I have also given a policy on how to prevent the interim prisoners, which number around 70,000, from being together with other prisoners. The Department of Corrections is currently working on this.
When asked if there was a comparison of the justice process in cases where citizens were accused, which progressed quickly, compared to cases where state officials were accused, such as the Tak Bai case, which progressed slowly and was seen as having double standards, Pol. Col. Thawee said that this was the public’s feeling, which is something we have to clarify. It can be seen that after 2014, we have been working on the Tak Bai case for 3 months, and it is not considered slow.
As for the case of a politician whose name starts with S. who talked to a person who is called an angel and released a clip, how will action be taken and prosecuted? Pol. Col. Thawee said that the case of The Icon is the police’s business and the
y are doing a good job. For cases like this that involve criminal matters, we will proceed seamlessly in terms of money laundering. In the end, we are concerned about the victims. If we can recover as many assets as possible, the victims will receive compensation. As for the issues along the way, there will be lawsuits. The more information is disclosed, the better it is because the Ministry of Justice or the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is developing them to become experts who must be able to find the truth, especially the masterminds, users, employers, assigners, or beneficiaries. We should not neglect them. These people must be prosecuted under the law. -317-Thai News Agency
